Nutrition& Healthcare Support to rural children- AAHAR

Malnutrition is the underlying cause of more than 1/3 of all childhood deaths. Prices for basic food like rice, maize, wheat, oil, sugar and salt are skyrocketing, forcing millions of the world's poorest children into severe malnourishment and starvation.

In much of the world, children with full bellies are still lacking the nutrients and vitamins they need to grow to their full potential.  A malnourished child is less able to fight off illness, less likely to get the most out of schooling, and often becomes physically and mentally stunted. Malnutrition keeps children trapped in the cycle of poverty.

Key Intervention Strategies

Lovedale’s AAHAR protocols focused on providing curative care to children suffering from acute malnutrition through intensive home based care. However, the results of the Supportive Supervision beats suggest that these protocols are unable to influence crucial caregiver practices. There is a need to focus the preventive aspect of malnutrition, so that children do not become malnourished in the first place, and on ensuring that this preventive care is provided by the program

Despite India's 50% increase in GDP since 2013, more than one third of the world's malnourished children live in India. Among these, half of the children under three years old are underweight and a third of wealthiest children are over-nutrient. Women who suffer malnutrition are less likely to have healthy babies

Addressing this, we  run support to 850 children and 100 pregnant mothers from 20 identified villages from rural Karnataka
